I usually use semi-permanent color from the Beautiful Collection, but one of my best friends used Adore after her last touch-up and she hasn't needed to apply it again since then, which was 4 weeks ago. Usually, ALL of my color is gone by 2-3 weeks! She also said that the Adore makes her hair feel more moisturized than any of the other colors she's used. I decided to give it a try since I needed to apply some color this week anyway.

My Experience
I applied the Velvet Black rinse to my freshly co-washed hair. The first thing I noticed that this product is not as dark and thick as the one from my usual rinse. I took this to mean that there is more conditioner in it. I then covered my head with a plastic cap for about 20 minutes without heat and 10 minutes with heat. When I rinsed it out, I didn't see as much "black water" in the sink, so I thought that the color must have attached to my hair. I also shampooed once with Creme of Nature (green label)- still no black water! I deep conditioned with heat for 10 minutes with ORS Replenishing and still didn't see any black water when I rinsed it out! I followed it up with my usual leave-in, coconut oil+water spray and serum+water and rollerset my hair.
My hair came out really soft, moist and thick-looking. It's only been 2 days, so the jury is still out on how long the color will last and how well my hair will retain moisture. If it still keeps up like this, I will replace the Beautiful Collection with the Adore.
Here is how my hair looked the day after using the rinse:
I also bought some shea butter oil, and I have to say that I wasn't impressed. Straight raw shea butter is way too heavy on my hair, so I thought the oil would be good. It didn't make my hair feel as soft or look as shiny as I hoped. I'll just use it on my skin and stick to coconut oil and grape seed oil on my hair...

Your hair is soo shiny!
Adore is what my stylist used in my hair. I recently purchased a rinse from the Beautiful Collection... but I am afraid to use it!
Do I have to do anything special to ensure that it doesn't stain my sink or bathtub?
Thanks Ms. S! Don't be afraid to use it. I've never had a bad experience with the Beautiful Collection.
I've never had a problem with any rinse staining my tub, sink or floor. When I do spill a drop, I clean it up immediately!
Hello,
I read your blog at least once a month and I can't tell you how much I enjoy it. I think I had plugged in a product you mentioned here initially (Giovanni Direct Stay-In)into Google and your blog came up.
Your hair is looking great. It looks shiny, bouncy and healthy. Your hard work is paying off.
I noticed on the blurb about you that you feel like your hair has suffered due to over processing, heat and stress. For the stress, you might want to try a B-Complex vitamin, either the 50mg or 100mg strength. That with a multivitamin/mineral is great. It keeps your hair strong and growing well. And, for fullness, pantothenic acid 500mg (Vit. B-5) once a day is like giving your hair a bath of moisture and fullness. With both, it takes about a month to notice the difference.
I am looking forward to your comments after you've used Adore for a while. Which company makes that product? My hair is a medium brown with some red highlights, and I had no luck with the Beautiful line. It seemed to wash out so fast and I just wash my hair about 2x weekly in the winter. What I like is Clairol's Loving Care semi-permanent line. It has lasted me as long as 3 months with very little of the red peeking out around my face. It has no peroxide, no ammonia and I'm sure you could use after a relaxer.
I see you've got both safflower and jojoba oils on your wish list. If you ever decide to purchase, definitely check out MountainRoseHerbs.com I buy oils there all the time and most are organic. They are very rich. Both are great for sealing your ends when Old Man Winter comes or when Mother Sun decides to descend. Both are great for your body after a shower or bath, too.
I love your blog and your hair looks beautiful. I am going to have to try the Adore color because your hair looks very silky and shiny, not dry and brittle. Last time I colored I used Beautiful Collections and my hair felt very dry and the color didn't look like it took. Thanks for the great review.
I love that color. I haven't done a rinse in a few years but I just might start again. :-) Thanks for the review!
You have the silkiest looking Hair Girl!!!! Gorgeous!!!!!
You've been tagged! Check my blog for instructions. :-)
So velvet black is a natural or off black? I got it because my hair is a 1B so I wanted natural black not Jet black.
Your Blog is pretty good and you can explore our website for more collections
